THE SOUTHWEST

ARIZONA and UTAH

SEDONA
four viewpoints Courthouse Butte

The secret is out on Sedona, it's a must-see on your way to Grand Canyon. With a population at just over 10,000 people, it's small, but that's part of what makes it a pleasant place to visit. If you're coming up

GRAND CANYON

South Rim vista another view from South Rim

Time seems to stand still at Grand Canyon. It is an awe-inspiring location. These shots are from the South Rim. The East Rim shows another side of the canyon, including a tower called the Desert View Watchtower, which has fascinating Hopi Indian paintings on the inner walls.

  GLEN CANYON

Glen Canyon Rainbow Bridge

Paige, Arizona is the gateway to Glen Canyon, most of which falls in southern Utah. Glen Canyon is home to Rainbow Bridge, which can be reached by boat or horseback only. The boat ride gives you a nice tour of the lake and the natural monuments that line its shores.

UTAH

 MONUMENT VALLEY

entrance to Monument Valley park vista

Monument Valley in Utah is a Navajo Tribal Park covering thousands of square miles. The visitors center is a few miles south of Route 163. The highlight is Mystery Valley where these huge sandstone structures loom against blue skies and red soil. The feeling you get when visiting though is of the days long before Western civilization, back to the geologic eons when these monuments were created. The road through the valley reveals the amazing rock sculptures and the colors that are found throughout the park.

  ZION CANYON
large rock formations unusual rock formations

Zion Canyon is also known for it's many unique rock formations. The road cuts through the canyon so that a good part of the time you are looking up at the sides of the canyon, unlike the Grand Canyon road which gives you the perspective at a height looking down Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway.

 BRYCE CANYON

the rocks called "hoodoos" the Sentinel

Bryce Canyon gives you the feeling you are on another planet. I've never seen anything like it. There are some different and interesting rock sculptures like the Spectacles. along the way.
